In the old town of Fez, there is a section of the city called Tanneries where tanneries work. There are several tanning pits here, and the craftsmen are working busily. The man in this photo is one of them.
He was working in a tanning pit, holding a brush with his rubber-gloved hand. Even though I kept my camera pointed at him, he did not glance at my camera or say a word. He seemed to be concentrating on his work. There was a peculiar smell coming from the area where a large amount of leather was being tanned, and most of the craftsmen were working silently without speaking.
