A young craftsman had his head in the tannery dyer's aisle
A young craftsman was sitting and resting in the aisle. This is a tannery of leather dyers in the old city of Fez. There are a number of dyeing pits in the area surrounded by buildings, and many craftsmen dye tanned leather. This young man must be one of those tannery workers.
He seems to be thinking about something with his head in his hands. Perhaps he is worried about something. Perhaps he was wondering if this job was right for him. But since no one can know what is on a person's mind, he may just be sleepy from lack of sleep.
