The same fishing village I had visited 14 years ago was not swallowed up by the waves of urbanization, but existed in the same way

Walking along the coastal road from the Gateway of India, I made my way toward the tip of the peninsula. Eventually, I arrived at the narrow strip of land jutting into the sea—marking the entrance to a small fishing village I had visited once before.

From the roadside, I could see countless stones scattered along the shoreline, with small boats pulled ashore between them. There were no towering skyscrapers, no signs of modern development. In a city like Mumbai, where rapid growth and urban expansion are constant, this place felt as though time had simply stood still.

It’s surprising that this village has remained untouched by the waves of urbanization and redevelopment that have reshaped much of the city. Here, fishermen continue to set out to sea, pull their boats ashore, and live in quiet rhythm with the sound of the waves. While the rest of Mumbai surges forward in relentless motion, this small fishing village still stands, facing the sea just as it always has.
