About 10 kilometers north of Muang Sing, there is a village of the Akha tribe. I rode alone on my bicycle into the village where the Akha live. The village was lined with thatched houses.
Of the many ethnic minorities in Laos, the Akha have the best looking traditional costumes. The women wear metal jewelry on their heads with a jingle. So, I came to the Akha village thinking that I would see many women in their cool traditional costumes.
Contrary to my expectations, however, the villagers were clearly not welcoming. Perhaps they thought that the arrival of a foreigner would disrupt their peaceful routine. The adults acted as if I didn't exist. Even if I came into view, they would never speak to me. Unfortunately, the only people who showed any interest in the intruder were children who were not even old enough to be there.
