There are several railroad facilities in the world that are listed on the World Heritage List. For example, the Budapest Metro Line 1, which opened in 1896, was the first subway in Eurasia and the second in history after the London Underground. Another example is the Iranian Trans-Iranian Railway, which is the second subway in history after the London Underground. But the Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus station in Mumbai is probably the only station on the World Heritage List.
The entrance to the station reminded me of the entrance to a church in Europe. The high arched ceilings and detailed ornamentation give the viewer a sense of the weight of history. It seemed more like a boundary between time and space than just an entrance to a train station.
