The village was surrounded by the wall to defend against foreign invasions. Yet the villagers weren't satisfied with the physical protection. So they built also wooden guardsmen at the entrance. The wooden sculpture in the photo was called 'Jangseung' which was talismans against evils.
I didn't know how strong the surprising man was. According to its funny face, it was difficult to think that it had a strong power.
