There was a small workshop on the side of a road in Kirtipur, and a man in a checkered shirt was working inside. He had a piece of wood in front of him and a chisel and mallet in his hand. He was carving decorations on the wood. I wondered what it was that the man was carving.
Window frames with detailed decorations are common in Nepal. The famous "peacock window" behind the Dattatraya Temple in Bhaktapur is also a decorative window carved out of wood. It is a traditional craft of the Kathmandu Valley. I stared at it, but could not tell whether the man was carving a window frame, a beam, or something else.
