I was heading from Ueno to Yushima. The destination is Yushima Tenmangu Shrine. It is not that far away, so a short walk will get you there.
As I proceeded down the alleyway between buildings, I saw a steep staircase ahead. Since this is not main approach, the atmosphere is a little subdued. Although neither the main shrine nor the hall of worship can be seen from where I am, Yushima Tenmangu Shrine sits on top of this hill. As proof, a stone torii gate stands at the top of the stairs. A woman was slowly climbing the stairs in front of me. She was probably on her way to the precincts of the shrine. I followed her and started to climb the stairs.
