The former Iwasaki Residence Garden was part of the residence of the Mitsubishi Zaibatsu Iwasaki family. The Western-style building was designed by Josiah Conder. He designed the Nicolai Hall in Ochanomizu. The extravagant building is now open to the public as a garden.
The garden was planted with maple trees, and the mansion was vaguely visible beyond. It appears that the building was once seized by GHQ for several years after World War II. This maple tree may be a living witness to history. It must have quietly watched the mansion through good times and bad.
