A wedding ceremony was being started. The a bridal couple and the assembled came out of the building and headed for the prayer hall of the shrine where the ceremony was done. A Shinto priest and priestesses were at the forefront of the cluster. The bride and groom would exchange marriage vows in front of Japanese deities.
The wedding ceremony in Shintoism seemed to have a long history. Yet it was a relatively young ceremony. It had only a 100-year-old history.
