I left the big road and went into a side street. Despite being wide, it was a side road with no automobiles coming in. The only people on the road were locals. Some people were just sitting by the side of the road doing nothing, others were working on the street, and children were playing around. Each person was spending his or her time as usual. Watching the people, I felt like I was catching a glimpse of what this street, or residential area, is really like.
As I walked along, I saw colanders on the street, all filled with small potatoes. They were drying potatoes in the sun. As I looked at the potatoes glistening in the sun, a question suddenly popped into my mind. All the potatoes look freshly picked. But wait a minute. This is near the central station of Yangon, the largest city in Myanmar. Even though there are no skyscrapers, this is the center of the city. There are no fields around here where potatoes can be harvested. Where in the world did these potatoes come from?
