Many stalls were open on both sides of Raya Mangga Besar street in Jakarta. Although the traffic on the carriageway was modesty busy, the number of pedestrians was low in contrast to the number of stalls. The sidewalk was not bustling. I was told that this area was one of the downtowns. Yet I didn't catch such an atmosphere. It was idyllic.
In the course of walking around, I found a man sitting on the edge of the carriageway. He was a peddler and took a rest there. A wagon on which his goods were put was stopped in front of him.
Seemingly, he was low-spirited. He stayed motionless while he was looking at the ground. Maybe he didn't do good business on that day. And he might think up the strategy to increase the sales by the roadside.
