The five-storied pagoda built in 1644 was towering above the trees. The temple itself is much older than the pagoda and was reared in 888. Some historic architectures stands inside the spacious precinct. The pagoda was one of them. Although the temple is also known for the magnificent cherry trees, it was the end of summer at the time of visiting. I couldn't see any cherry blossoms.
By the way, this temple is a part of the 'Historic Monuments of Ancient Kyoto' listed on UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
