The grounds of Wat Phra Kaew were quite crowded with tourists. This temple is a popular tourist destination in Bangkok. But the cloister I happened to come to was very empty. There was no one else walking around, just an old couple sitting and resting. Perhaps this couple was tired of walking in the crowded grounds. They were sitting down in harmony, pointing here and there and talking about something. This cloister has a very quiet and serene atmosphere. It was a good place to rest in the less busy precincts.
Just because there is no one walking around does not mean that there is not something to see and do in this cloister. The walls of the cloister are densely covered with murals and it is interesting to see them for its own sake. It might be a Buddhist sermon or a story of the Thai royal family, but it is difficult to understand the content of the murals without any description. I walked along the wall, but I couldn't understand what kind of story was going on in the wall until the end.
