High-rise office buildings tower on both sides of the street, reminding us that this is the economic and financial center of Japan, along with Otemachi. These buildings house some of the largest corporations in Japan, and during the daytime on weekdays, many businesspeople can be seen walking about the town, looking busy and busy.
However, this district was once a very different landscape. When Ieyasu Tokugawa entered Edo, this area was part of the “Hibiya Inlet,” and what stretched out was not an area of buildings, but the sea. Today, there is no sign of the sea or the scent of the seashore in the air, so it is hard to believe. In the Edo period (1603-1867), this area was reclaimed and became a samurai estate lined with the residences of feudal lords and their feudal lords. In the Meiji period (1868-1912), the clan residences were demolished and the site was used as a military training ground for the army.
