Although the word "Marunouchi" conjures up images of an office district, when one actually arrives in Marunouchi, one finds an unexpectedly large number of stores catering to individual customers. Of course, there are far more offices than stores, but one gets the impression that this is because the lower floors of the office buildings are all consumer-oriented stores. Moreover, many of the brands that have stores in Marunouchi are rather expensive. There are no 100-yen stores to be found here; instead, the streets are lined with fashionable stores.
So many people walk down Marunouchi Naka-dori Avenue, the main street, when visiting Marunouchi on weekends. Most offices are closed, so these are not people here for work. They are people who have come here to spend their holidays. The type of person who loves Marunouchi and spends both workdays and holidays here is probably in the minority, so the type of people who visit here on weekdays and weekends is probably different. Indeed, Marunouchi Naka-dori Avenue is a pleasant place to stroll, with its wide avenues lined with trees. If only I had the resources to shop freely at nearby brands, I would be able to enjoy Marunouchi to the fullest.
