Tokyo Station, where long-distance trains arrive and depart, also has a hotel called the Tokyo Station Hotel, which may not be familiar to people living in Tokyo. Part of the red-brick station building has been turned into a hotel.
The Tokyo Station Hotel opened unexpectedly more than 100 years ago, in 1915. There were many people who wanted to build a hotel because the accommodation situation in Tokyo was extremely bad, and after many twists and turns, it was finally decided to build a hotel inside the station. It is hard to believe now that there are not only cheap hotels, but also luxury hotels such as Shangri-La, Peninsula, and Palace Hotel scattered around the area.
Speaking of hotels, many people in Japan not only stay in hotels but also hold wedding receptions. The Tokyo Station Hotel also offers wedding packages, and it is possible to have a wedding at Tokyo Station. When I arrived in front of Tokyo Station, a couple who would be getting married at the Tokyo Station Hotel was dressed up and taking photos in front of the station building. I don't know what the inside of the hotel looks like, but the station building designed by Kingo Tatsuno still looks great after more than 100 years.
