The streets of Yangon where I was walking were lined with food stalls and many locals were walking around. It was a busy street. I also walked among the crowds. Walking along the street with the locals, I felt as if I had become a part of the local atmosphere. It is fun just walking along, but I always think it would be even more fun if I could speak the local language. Even if there is no one to talk to, if I can understand the unimportant things that the locals are saying, I must feel like a part of the local community. But alas. I don't speak Burmese. My communication with the locals is exclusively through body language.
Even though I could not speak the language, I continued on my way, looking at the stalls lining the road one by one, until I came to the stall where the young man in the photo was working. As I stop in front of him, the young man notices my presence. At the same time, the young man saw that I was holding up a camera and burst out laughing, embarrassed. I think the man said something to me. But I don't know what he said. The only message I received was a puzzled, bitter smile.
