A large number of couples and families visited this small Saigoyama Park. This park, a popular spot in the Daikanyama neighborhood, is located on the edge of a cliff from which one can enjoy an excellent view. Although the ocean is not supposed to be visible anywhere, looking down at the cityscape from the top of the cliff, it is a place where one feels a strange illusion of a hint of the ocean.
There is a small hill in the center of the park where families are relaxing to their heart's content. One of them, a man who appeared to be the father, stood up and began taking pictures of his family. His silhouette, visible through the trees, was imposing with his legs wide open.
The name “Saigoyama Park” is derived from a person's name. The name comes from the fact that Saigo Takamori's younger brother, Saigō Cudamichi, had a villa on this site. At that time, there was a magnificent residence with a Western-style building by French architect Lescas and a Japanese-style building in the shoin style. Today, however, all traces of the mansion have vanished, and the area is now just a peaceful and tranquil park. The building was strictly on the site of the adjacent Sugakari Park, and no trace of the building remains in Saigoyama Park itself.
