The roads that stretch through the old city in Morocco are narrow; the roads in the medina of Meknes, the capital of the Alawi dynasty from 1675 to 1728, were also narrow and maze-like. Even though the city is registered as a World Heritage site, there are still residential areas in the old town where people still live. Standing on a street corner, many people crossed the street in front of me, and I could tell that this was an active residential area.
The alleys of the medina here in Meknes are also maze-like. But no one stops by the side of the road and looks like they are lost. I am the only gentile who does that, and the locals must not be lost even if they close their eyes.
