Climbing up the steep stairway, I came to the front of the worship hall of Ichigaya Kamegaoka Hachiman-gu Shrine. Standing in front of the shrine, I paid my respects. In front of me was a wooden offering box with a bell cord hanging from the top.
I suddenly looked at the hall of worship and saw that the door was open. I could see inside through the crack. Normally, the door of the hall of worship is kept tightly closed when there is no one in it, so it is rare to see it open. A gohei (sacred staff) was standing inside. Perhaps it was opened to change the air. Perhaps the deities enshrined in the shrine also like to take a breath of fresh air once in a while.
