The old town of Bhaktapur, designated as a World Heritage site, is full of narrow, dimly lit alleys like the one in the photo. The buildings on both sides are made of bricks, and the road surface is also covered with bricks. No one knows how many bricks were used. The alleys, flanked by tall buildings on both sides, were dimly lit even in the daytime, and the atmosphere was appropriate for the historic old town.
At the end of the alley, a woman was pulling a long cloth out of a window. The cloth looked like a saree. She had probably washed it and hung it out to dry. But it might not dry so easily in the alley, where the sun doesn't shine so much.
