I was at Inaricho Station. This is one of the stations on the Ginza Line. Stations on the Ginza Line, Japan's first subway, are often old and narrow. After all, the Ginza Line opened in 1927, just as the Showa period was beginning. The people who designed the line back then may not have imagined that as many people would use the subway as they do today. Here at Inaricho Station, too, the platform is old and narrow, barely wide enough for people to pass each other.
As I waited for the train at Inaricho Station, I saw a couple waiting for the same train on the platform across the street. A pay phone was set up next to them. As I stared at the pay phone, I realized that I had not used a pay phone for a long time.
