Ueno Park was just as crowded as it was before the COVID-19 pandemic. Many people were walking in the same way as I was, exiting Ueno Station and heading for Ueno Park. Except for the fact that people were wearing masks, you would think that the COVID-19 pandemic had already ended.
But I was naive. I was reminded that the corona scare was still going on when I walked up to the entrance of the Ueno Zoo. Without thinking, I was about to enter the Ueno Zoo, which I had not visited for a long time, when I saw a sign. It said that you could not enter the Ueno Zoo without making a reservation in advance, and as if in tune with what I was reading, an announcement of the same content was made inside the zoo. I hadn't thought about making a reservation in advance, but it seemed that I couldn't enter the zoo.
I hadn't even dreamed that the zoo was restricting admission, and I felt as if I'd been splashed with cold water, thinking we get through the worst of it. I was reminded that the COVID-19 pandemic was still going on. It was a pity that I couldn't go, but when I saw a couple enjoying themselves in a corner of the park, I felt that it didn't matter.
