While walking around Kuala Lumpur, I found something unusual. It was a Sikh temple. Malaysia is a country where Muslims make up the majority. But there are also many people who believe in Sikhism, which originated in India. They are the descendants of immigrants who came from India when it was a British territory. It is said that Sikhs were highly valued by the British authorities, so there must have been a good number of Sikhs among the immigrants. It was the first time I had seen a Sikh temple, so I was intrigued and decided to step into the temple.
The inside of the humble temple was decorated and crowded with people. There seemed to be a wedding ceremony going on. Everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves. When I spotted the bride and groom and asked if I could take their picture, the star of the day was happy to oblige. When I pointed my camera at them, both the groom and the bride smiled at me. They looked like a happy newlywed couple.
Incidentally, not only the bride but also the groom covered his hair for religious reasons. Unlike Muslims, it is customary for Sikhs to cover their hair, not only for women but also for men.
