Gate With The Chrysanthemum Throne

Gate With The Chrysanthemum Throne (Tokyo)

There was a big Chrysanthemum Throne on the door

Shot at Yasukuni Jinja, a Shinto shrine in Kudan, Tokyo. In the middle of the approach way to the main hall of this shrine, a big wooden gate called 'Shin-Mon' stood. It means 'The gate of Deity' literally. And the large Chrysanthemum Throne was decorated on the gate because this shrine was closely connected to the Japanese Imperial family.

The worshipers came in a virtually seamless manner. Yet few of them took thought of the heraldic emblem. Most of the worshipers passed through the gate as if nothing had happened.
