On the approach to Yasukuni Shrine stands a large gate called Shin-mon. When you stand in front of the gate, you are overwhelmed by its size and realize that you are stepping into an extraordinary space. I think it is necessary to overwhelm people not with logic but with size in order to demonstrate religious authority. It is difficult for people to be impressed by logic alone. It is better to overwhelm people visually.
Many worshippers were passing through the gate. Silhouetted worshippers walked quietly along the path. The building at the end of the path, with a banner depicting the chrysanthemum emblem, is the hall of worship.
