An older woman with gray hair was sitting at the entrance of a building in the old city of Bhaktapur, which is also registered as a World Heritage Site. She was sitting at the entrance of the building as if she got in someone's way. She seemed to be doing some kind of manual work there. It's not unusual to see people working on their front porches when you walk around the old town.
If you want to push along by inches, I think most people work in a place like a workroom, but in the Kathmandu Valley, it seems to be common to do something on the doorstep. It's just my imagination, but the houses in this area don't seem to have good lighting. Therefore, it may be too dark to do anything inside the house. That said, it doesn't seem to be the custom to turn on the lights during the day. As a result, many people seem to be working at the front door, keeping their hands bright.
