A bench had been set up in the shade of a tree by the side of the road that runs through the town of Pyay. And a woman with a tanaka painted on her face was sitting alone. Watching the traffic, not doing anything in particular. Maybe she's taking a little break because this place was cooler than the house. Air conditioning was still not common in this area.
The first thing that will surprise you when you travel in Myanmar is Thanaka. Many people walk around applying natural cosmetics made from the Tanaka tree to their faces. Each person has their own way of applying it, and if you see someone applying it in a loose manner to their face, you'd think they forgot to take off their face pack and went out.
The woman in this photo was no doubt covered in tanaka on her face, and although most of it seemed to have fallen off, there was still some on the edges of her forehead.
