In the town of Pyay, time moved at a gentle pace. People gathered in the shade beneath the eaves, and each passing breeze set the leaves above them into a soft rustle.
In a quiet corner of the street, an elderly woman sat alone on a chair set out by the roadside. She wasn’t doing anything in particular — just sitting there, watching the world go by. There was a faint smile on her face, not directed at anyone, but rather woven into the fabric of everyday life itself — a quiet joy, born from simply being.
Perhaps, like many others in this town, she was waiting for something. Or maybe she wasn’t. Perhaps it didn’t matter either way. In the afternoon light, her presence became part of the scenery — as natural and unhurried as the drifting air.
When I approached with my camera, she glanced at me briefly, then offered a warm nod. I don’t know if she understood the words I used to ask for permission — but there was no hesitation, no wariness in her expression. Instead, there was a gentle kindness, as if to say, “Go ahead — why not?”
