As I walked aimlessly, I left the town of Luang Nam Tha and found myself on a country road on the outskirts of the city. The gravel road was straight, with fields on both sides. In the scorching sun, I rarely crossed paths with locals. Local people do not go out when the sun is shining. I trudged along by myself. As I did so, contrary to my expectations, a figure appeared at the end of the road. The figure was walking toward me. I decided to stop and wait for the figure to come.
The figure was an older woman wearing a sinh, the traditional Laotian dress. She was walking along a road with no buildings or large trees on the side of the road and no shade, and she was holding a parasol in her hand. After all, even the locals think the sun is strong. In Laos, even Buddhist monks walk with parasols.
