Perhaps because of its proximity to the Shinagawa Pier, there are many warehouses in the Higashi-Shinagawa area. In such a situation, the Warehouse TERRADA is operating a renovated warehouse facility for art in order to make the area a center of art and culture. The warehouse, with its high ceiling and minimal decoration, is a true white cube. It is a space suitable for displaying artworks.
In addition to WHAT MUSEUM, which exhibits art owned by collectors in its warehouses, the Warehouse TERRADA also operates TERRADA ART COMPLEX, which houses several galleries. There is an entrance fee for WHAT MUSEUM, but it's free to visit the galleries in TERRADA ART COMPLEX, which is a nice touch.
When I stepped into the gallery in TERRADA ART COMPLEX II, I found a series of tennis-themed paintings hanging on the white walls. The afternoon sun was pouring in through the windows high on the walls. The space with the soft sunlight spinning around it looked like a spaceship in a science fiction movie.
