I did not ask anyone's permission to enter the local market and take pictures because I happened to find it while walking around, but the people working there did not seem to pay any particular attention. They didn't treat the intruder, who was obviously from a foreign country, with disdain, and when they saw me, they took me under their wings. No one asked me what I was doing here, and no one chased me away because I was getting in the way of their work. The market, where anyone can come to buy, is open to strangers.
As I walk around the market with my reflex camera in my hand, some people show interest in me and ask me to take their picture. There are people who are still attracted to large (though mirrorless, so quite small) cameras. Upon request, I looked through the viewfinder and saw a man with a cheerful face sitting next to two men who were getting into the act of taking pictures. Unlike the man who had posed for the photo and the man who was staring at the camera with great intensity, this man clutching a wad of cash was probably thinking bitterly that he didn't care about photography and that it was just getting in the way of his work.
