Shinjuku Gyoen Park is huge. You can spend a lot of time walking around it, and you'll want to take a break along the way. The park has been furnished with benches here and there to reflect these opinions.
The number of benches is exquisite, not too many, not too few, but just the right number, I feel. Even if I want to sit down for a minute, it's often impossible to do so because they're occupied already. It's as if you're participating in a game of musical chairs.
There was also a prior customer on a bench under a tree I was passing by. The woman was hunched over and looking up. It was as if she was holding an eye drop. What was she looking at, I wondered as I made my way to the other benches.
