Like many others, I would like to sit on a bench in the Shinjuku Gyoen Park lined with plane trees and relax, but it's not easy. At this time of year, the rows of plane trees are a popular spot, and there are already people sitting on the benches. It is not always possible to sit on a bench just because you have arrived.
On this day, too, I rushed to get there, but the benches were full, partly because I was too late. When I go to a cafe and it is full, I tend to look for people who are about to finish their coffee and try to figure out if there is room over there or over here, but such tricks do not work here. Everyone came here to relax and sit on the benches, so it was impossible to read which people would get up and move.
I couldn't find an empty bench, so I casually waited for one to open up as I walked back and forth along the not-so-long tree-lined path. But just when I thought a bench was available, another person nearby would sit down, making it difficult to secure one. It is quite difficult to secure a bench in the plane trees.
