There are many buildings at Nakayama Hokkekyo-ji Temple that have been designated Important Cultural Properties by the national government, but I was particularly attracted to the Shogyoden Hall, which is not designated as an Important Cultural Property. Passing by the Soshido Hall and through the Hōden Gate, the Shogyoden appears and has a slightly different atmosphere from the other buildings. It is a warehouse shaped like a strong chess piece. However, it is more than just a warehouse. The Shogyoden is a sturdy treasure house built to pass on to future generations the relics of Nichiren, which are designated as national treasures. In other words, although the Shogyoden itself is not designated as an important cultural property, there are many valuable items inside that are designated as national treasures.

The Shogyoden was built with earthquake and fire resistance in mind and will not succumb to any disaster. Perhaps it would even withstand the end of the world, such as a nuclear war, and continue to store valuable relics. If such a surreal situation were to come true, the human race would already be extinct, but the documents that Nichiren once submitted to the highest authorities of the time would remain, waiting patiently to be read again one day by some intelligent life form that will come from somewhere. Thinking of this, I felt a little excited.
