There was an old building diagonally across from the intersection. It was the Nihonenoki Branch Office of the Takanawa Fire Department. This building, with its old-fashioned fire watchtower on the corner, was completed in 1933. In the past, there were no tall buildings around it, and you could see the whole city of Tokyo from the top of the fire watchtower.
Nowadays, there are countless buildings taller than this fire watchtower. No matter how high up on the plateau it is, such a view is no longer possible. The fire watchtower, now useless, lives on quietly in the residential area as a historical building.
