A young man wearing a sombrero stood by the side of the road in Puebla. The man with deliberate makeup on his face was smiling and did not move an inch. He was staring at the sky. He was performing a street performance called living statue. Even when I stood right in front of him, his expression did not change. But when I threw a coin into the box in front of him, his smile seemed to get bigger.
Incidentally, the word "sombrero" in Japan and other non-Spanish-speaking countries often refers to a traditional Mexican wide-brimmed hat for men. However, the term "sombrero" originally meant any kind of hat with a rim. Thus, a hat like the one worn by the man in the photo is called a sombrero de charro ("cowboy hat").
