Sake barrels from various breweries were dedicated to Dazaifu Tenmangu

Many barrels of sacred sake were piled up in the precincts of Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine in Dazaifu, Fukuoka. From the looks of it, various sake breweries had dedicated their barrels to the shrine. Some of the brands, such as Gekkeikan, are often seen in Tokyo, while others I've never seen before were lined up.

With such a prominent shrine, it seems that sake breweries from all over Japan dedicate their sake to the shrine. It is no wonder that Sugawara no Michizane, who is enshrined here, thinks that a later life in which he can drink as much sake as he likes from all over Japan is not so bad, even though he lost the position he had risen to due to slander and was moved aside at the same time.

Incidentally, there are Tenmangu shrines enshrining Sugawara no Michizane in various parts of Japan, but Dazaifu Tenmangu, Kitano Tenmangu, and Hofu Tenmangu are generally referred to as the "Three Tenjin Shrine" together. Dazaifu Tenmangu, along with Kitano Tenmangu in Kyoto, is considered the head shrine of all Tenmangu shrines in Japan.
