At the entrance of the Senso-ji Temple grounds, a statue stands with eyes full of madness. It is a statue of Kongorikishi. However, since the role of the statue is to protect the grounds of the temple from evil, its scary face is inevitable. But isn't it a bit too scary? He has what looks like a knife in his hand and is not in a welcoming mood by any means.
The more I look at his staring eyes, the scarier they are. I've never experienced anything like that, but this is what it would be like to be tangled up with an enraged thug. It's so frightening that some people would probably want to make a U-turn and leave without entering the precinct.
