There are many times when I am taking pictures and I think that it would be more interesting if I had a stepladder. I expect the world to smell a little different when viewed from a slightly higher vantage point than usual.
However, I have never strolled around the city with my stepladder because it seems too difficult to carry it around. Such stepladders are usually forgotten, but when I see children being carried on their parent's shoulders, they peek out from the drawers of my memory. Although I have long since passed the age when I would ask someone to carry me on their shoulders, every time I stand on a stepladder, I think that it would be similar.
While walking in the precincts of Senso-ji Temple, I saw a young girl being carried by her father on his shoulders. She was looking around at the hustle and bustle around her with a twinkle in her eyes. All the children who were being carried on the shoulders looked happy. Not only were they riding on their favorite father's shoulders, but they were also amused to see the faces of the adults who were usually far above their gaze, but on this occasion, below their own.
