Although this temple is a Buddhist temple, there is a small Shinto shrine in the precinct. You can see a small hall on the top of the steps.
Living together of two religions may muddle around monotheists. Yet it is common in this country. Until the Meiji Restoration, Most Japanese didn't discriminate Buddhism and Shintoism. Deities were just deities and ubiquitous. I think this is why the problems of the Middle East is too difficult to understand for Japanese.
