Since the gods ride the horses, it would not be surprising if the beauty of their appearance was included in the criteria for selection, but this does not always seem to be the case. I am sorry to say that the sacred horse at Kanda Myojin shrine in Kanda was neither a mysterious white horse nor a beautiful looking horse. It was a pony, lounging in a small space surrounded by a fence, and it looked more familiar than divine.
The horse, named ‘Akira’ after a character from Kanda Myojin, not only has a lovely appearance, but is also loved by many visitors to the shrine, perhaps because it is rare to see a horse in the middle of Tokyo. She seems to have an ashy coat, so she will become a white horse when she gets older, but at the moment she is still covered with a dark coat. When her whole body is covered with white hair, she will naturally have a godly appearance. Even if they are not godlike, they already seem to be of a high rank, and when people show them charm over the fence, she does not show any affection in response.
