The doors of Mumbai's suburban trains never close. They are left open and continue to run. While it was refreshing to feel the wind blowing into the train, it was also dangerous to fall off the train. But there is a reason for this, apparently.
In a big city like Mumbai, there are many people who use suburban trains to commute to work or school. Especially during the morning and evening commuter rush hours, the trains are crowded to the point of suffocation. In order to operate on time under such circumstances, it is necessary to reduce waste as much as possible. This is how they decided to omit opening and closing the doors at stations.
This system, which emphasizes efficiency over safety, is somewhat unconvincing. It seems to me that the part that should be omitted is a little off. However, when I see even the conductor's compartment door of a running train left open, I find myself strangely convinced that this is the way things are done.
