I bought a ticket at the counter, walked through the ticket gate, and ascended the stairs to the platform. This was Gambier, a station where long-distance trains connect Jakarta to the main cities of Java. When you hear that, you might think of a very large station, but it is not a large station at all. It's just two island platforms near Monas. The station seems to date back to the Dutch colonial era, but it was renovated in the 1990s and has no historical charm. In short, Gambier Station is not a very unique station. Nevertheless, I came here because the long-distance train I was taking departed from this station.
As I waited on the platform for the train to arrive, another express train stopped on the opposite side of the platform. The door was open and a conductor in uniform was leaning out to see the situation. The conductor of the Indonesian Railways was in full uniform. I was sure that the interior of the express train I was going to take would be kept clean. Satisfied, I walked back and forth on the platform with my camera in hand.
