Steep Stairway In Tsurugaoka Hachiman-Gu

Worshipers on steep stairway

The staircase was crowded

Shot at Tsurugaoka Hachiman-Gu, a Shinto shrine in Kamakura, Kanagawa.

The main hall of this shrine stood on the top of the steep stairway. It was the most important Shinto shrine in the city and was associated with Yoritomo Minamoto, the first tycoon of Kamakura shogunate.

When I visited the shrine, the precinct was crowded. Many worshipers were climbing the steep staircase. Although the tree which was seen beside the staircase was big, it didn't exist at the time of construction of the shrine.
