Although smaller than Yokohama's Chinatown, Nagasaki also has a Chinatown where overseas Chinese are active. I feel that the Chinese have a sense of settling anywhere that Japanese people do not have. Perhaps prewar Japanese had the spirit to leave Japan and go to Manchuria or Malaysia, but at least the Japanese of today do not seem to have it.
Nagasaki's Chinatown, like Chinatowns in other countries, is lined with Chinese restaurants. As I was walking along, I saw a golden pig standing in front of one restaurant. He was holding a tray in one hand and was proudly inviting customers to the restaurant. He was a cheerful pig. He looked confident enough to make us believe that this restaurant must be delicious.
