The Ayeyarwady River runs right next to the town of Pyay. The riverbank is spacious and perfect for a stroll, although it seems to vary considerably depending on whether it is the wet or dry season. There were ships moored here and there, and a few locals popping in and out.
The young woman in the photo was one of the people I met while strolling along the river. Her cheeks were covered with Thanaka, and she had a cushion on her head to carry her luggage. Like this woman, she carried a large plate on his head as she boarded the boat and peddled inside.
This young woman seemed to enjoy having her picture taken, and when I pointed my camera at her, she took a brave pose with her fist in the air.
