One of the main attractions of sightseeing in Bali is the Balinese dance. In Ubud, one of the most popular tourist villages in Bali, there was a stage set up for Balinese dances, and young people who looked like students were practicing Balinese dances. Some were playing musical instruments, while others were dancing in the middle of the stage. Although they looked like they were dancing in earnest, I could tell they were practicing because they were all dressed roughly.
As I watched in a daze, the two young men dancing in the center of the stage shrugged their shoulders at the same time and made a show of it. They were wearing traditional sarongs and bandanas called udeng on their heads, but they were both wearing rough T-shirts.
