Although the name of the temple name sounds as if a Shorin-ji Kempo practitioner might appear, in fact, all that appears are darumas. Shorin-zan Daruma Temple in Takasaki City, Gunma Prefecture, has a large number of Daruma dolls for prayers. If you think that they are carefully placed because they were dedicated to the temple, you are mistaken. They were placed in a messy manner, as if children had reluctantly put away their toys in a toy box because their parents were angry with them. To be precise, there were many daruma dolls that had not even been placed. There were many colorful darumas left out in the open air on the edge of the daruma hall.

Still, the smaller darumas were neatly lined up in the gaps between the railings. It was the larger darumas that were in chaos. Some of them were politely facing straight ahead, but most of them were staring in the wrong direction. Some were facing the ground, while others were staring intently at the sky. The large daruma statues were placed without any connection, and they were staring in various directions as they pleased. If I were to play "Daruma-san koronda" with so many Darumas, I would never be able to win against those who are staring in various directions.
